Best Self-Improvement Goals for the New Year

Kevin Devoto
With the new year approaching, it is important to figure out what you want to achieve in the next twelve months. However, it is much easier to have general goals, rather than specific resolutions that may set you up to fail.

Exercise More

Whether you are a beginnerĀ or a fitness aficionado, there are always ways that you can improve your exercise regimen. If you are just getting started, be sure to not set your expectations too high. Rather, have attainable goals that you will be able to accomplish, and then keep working towards bigger achievements.

Consider Adding Supplements

It's a good idea to visit a nutritionist or dietitian to find any deficiencies in important nutrients that your body needs to stay healthy. Once you have identified if you have any nutrient or mineral deficiencies, you can get your levels back to normal. For example, if you have low levels of good bacteria in your gut, you may benefit from prebiotics.

Practice Mindfulness

One of the growing movements in self-help and psychology is the mindfulness method, which is a way to be more aware of your own thoughts, and use them to change your outlook and mood and relieve stress. Much like meditation, mindfulness takes some practice, so do not be discouraged if you do not achieve your goals on the first few tries.

Get Into Good Habits

Forming new habits is one of the most popular resolutions for the new year, and it is easy to see why. Having a modified routine, such as exercising regularly, eating better, and other lifestyle changes is very appealing to those who want a clean slate to start from. In order to be the most successful, you should try to work on one habit at a time.

Start a New Hobby

Hobbies have beenĀ proved to elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, the two main chemicals released in the brain that correspond to happiness and joy. As adults get more busy with jobs, responsibilities, and children, it becomes more difficult to make time to do something that you truly love.
