Dealing with Anger Issues in Children

A fight with a best friend, a school punishment, an encounter with a bully classmate, or low self-esteem, all can make children depressed and short-tempered. Parents and teachers play an important role in managing anger in children.
Some noticeable symptoms of anger in children are repulsive behavior, increased heart rate, and in some children the face may turn reddish. What parents and teachers need to learn are some techniques to control anger, which are presented here.
► First thing to be remembered by parents is that, they should check their own behavior when children are around. This is because children learn from their parents and try to imitate them. If the behavior of parents is not proper, children would learn the same things.
► You should make it a point to teach children the importance of qualities like love, forgiveness and brotherhood. This helps a child in dealing with his friends and classmates.
► Make it a point that you do not scold your wards, especially when their friends are around. Be polite in your behavior towards children. This is very important for the self-esteem of the child. The child might get angry if he is not happy with his self and his image.
► Narrate good stories to your kids in the night. This helps in imbibing moral values and good habits in the kids. These values indirectly help children in controlling their anger.
► Sometimes, actions are necessary to convey love. A simple hug works wonders and makes the child feel that he is being loved. On many occasions, it was found that lack of attention from the parents was the reason behind the growing anger in the kid.
► If your child is not a team player and always gets angry with other kids while playing, make him or her join activity class that he loves. This way, the child will bond with other children who have similar interests.
Anger is an emotion which should not be kept hidden in the mind and also it should not go overboard in its expression. Remember, life is beautiful and you have to fill it with beautiful moments, and anger is a curse which kills your precious time. Keep smiling!
