Do you know what all successful people have in common? Firstly, they are intelligent. Secondly, they are hardworking. The most important quality of successful people is that they are always prepared for any eventuality that might occur. It is very important that a person is well-organized.
Being organized is not easy and certainly not something one can become in a day. But with constant efforts and the tips suggested below, anybody can have an organized home, work, and life.

How to Be Organized at Work

To-do Lists

In order to be organized at work, the first thing that you should do is to make a to-do list everyday. Remember to make this list one day in advance. With today's technology, you can prepare this list in your computer or phone as well. When you are aware about the amount of work that you have to do the next day, you will be able to plan it more efficiently.

Get Rid of the Clutter

It is very important that you throw away all the unwanted papers, files, and things you have on your desk. Also, file the documents and folders that you need everyday. This will save a lot of time and effort everyday.

Do One Thing at a Time

It is very important that whatever task you have planned to do first is completed before you take up a new task. Taking up two things at a time results in poor quality of work and can delay completion of the task.

Do Important Tasks First

Even if you want to do another task at a particular time, if a task which is very important from your boss's point of view comes up, complete that first. Finishing important tasks will eliminate any kind of outside interference such as your boss checking up on you repeatedly for the progress of the task. Once you finish the important task, you will be able to focus on the other tasks better.

Getting Organized at Home

Donate Unwanted Stuff

If there are certain clothes in your wardrobe which you have not worn for over a year now, it is very unlikely that you are going to wear them in the future. Same goes for old shoes, books, and other things in your house. So either donate these things or simply put them in a trash bag and throw them away to clear the clutter in your house.

Make a File

Make a file which contains all the important papers, bills, and receipts. Discard the ones that you do not need.

Fix Places for Everything

In order to organize your home, it is necessary that you have a fixed place for everything such as clothes, shoes, books, extra kitchen supplies, and the medicine box. This will help you to find these things easily when you need them.

Clean One Thing at a Time

Once you have fixed places for every item in your home, start cleaning the house. Start with one shelf or cabinet at a time. Organize and clean it first and then move on to the next one.

Involve your Family

Once you clean the house there is no guarantee that it will remain that way forever, especially if you have kids. So make them and your spouse understand how much effort has gone into organizing the house by involving them in this task as well. This way they will think twice before messing anything up.

Staying Organized in College

Make Note of the Syllabus

College life can throw many surprises at youngsters. It is very important that the students make a note of the syllabus that is provided in class on the first day.
They should write all the important dates that are specified in the syllabus, such as what and when a particular chapter has to be studied and when the assignments have to be submitted. Planning will become easier when the student knows what is due and when it needs to be done.

Keep the Backpack Ready

The bag that the student takes with him everyday to the college should have all the items necessary everyday, such as writing material, highlighters, and books. This way the student will not have to struggle for them in class.

Keep the Room Organized

Keeping the dorm room clean and having a specific place for everything such a clothes, books, assignments, and shoes will save a lot of time. The student should make sure that when he comes back from class everyday, he puts the things exactly where they were taken from.
It is also very important to understand that procrastinating work makes a person disorganized. If you feel that you are making improvement in your personal and professional life, i.e. you are becoming more organized and are also reaping its rewards, it's very important that you reward yourself from time to time.
You could go for a movie or watch a live sport--reward your self with whatever makes you happy. This will certainly keep you motivated enough to continue with this new lifestyle.
