However, this self-confidence or pride in oneself can lead to negative feelings towards others and turn you into a prejudiced person.

People who have high self-esteem can be negative towards other people's feelings, and those who suffer from low self-esteem usually have a low opinion about themselves and portray a meek and timid image.

Building a Positive Self-esteem

Many changes can be brought about in your life by building high self-esteem. People who have low self-worth and wrap it up by saying that they are humble or down to earth are grossly mistaken about their own personalities. Always remember that your life is your own responsibility, and what you make of it is the result of your own choices.
Also remember that no one else knows you as well as you know yourself and you have more capability than you give yourself credit for. Those who have a good self-esteem should concentrate on humility.

Its Importance

Research says that every aspect of our personal lives, like creativity, happiness, relationships with others, success, achievement, dependencies, and even our intimate lives, are majorly dependent on the levels of our self-esteem.
This is the factor that decides our personalities and public image. Therefore, overcoming low self-esteem is very important. And when a person is positive, he:
  • has a positive approach towards life's problems.
  • has confidence in himself and can battle any situation with a calm, sorted mind.
  • can solve his own as well as others' problems without getting confused and flustered.
  • can take risks and be responsible for their consequences.
  • can confront and eliminate his fears, being ready to start from scratch.

Ways to Build It

Positive thinking is not at all a difficult thing to learn. You do not need to spend a fortune on a psychiatrist. There are a number of activities you can try. The only thing you need to have through all this is an open mind to accept change. You can give yourself the following positive affirmations
  • I am an important person who should be valued, and I am worth the respect others give me.
  • When I express my ideas to people, they respect my point of view.
  • I respect my past performances and I am proud of them. I walk with a positive expectancy of my future.
  • I have a warm and loving feeling towards myself as I am unique and precious. I like to share my love and attention with others.
  • I am kind, compassionate, and gentle with myself and others.
  • Actions are more important to me. I do important things first and take one step at a time.
  • My emotional well-being is determined by how I handle a situation.
Everything has a positive and negative side to it, but counting on the positive is much easier than crying about the negative.
